Social media marketing requires a creative mind to curate interesting content and appealing graphics in order to catch the eye of your audience with the hopes of gaining them as a loyal customer or client. Our goal when we write in order to grow our following base is to create content that tells a story, solves a pain point, or teaches something. Designing graphics are no different. The most important detail to remember when designing graphics is to stay uniform with your branding design amongst all platforms your business is present on. Always keep your brand’s vision, values, and voice in mind when generating content. Your content and graphics should always be original and stand out from your competitors on all platforms from your website to any online platforms you decide to use.
Generating content is easier than ever with the help of design platforms like Canva. For social media sites like Instagram this is vital and now made easy. Instagram was created to give users the ability to share photos, videos, and create live videos known as stories.
When it comes to designing or selecting images to share on social media, there are many online programs available both free and paid. If you are currently comfortable using a program that works for you, then there is no need to change. At 2Mar Media, we love using Canva to create all of our graphic designs for our social media sites, our website, our blog, and much more.
Why Canva Is The Way To Go
Canva is a wonderful program for all levels of designers. It is a very accessible application that is available for use on any desktop, tablet, and mobile. Canva is very affordable for everyone and at affordable, I mean free! They do offer two different versions, one is free and the other is a monthly paid subscription, which is called Canva for Work. Its free version is more than powerful enough to use for all of your designing needs and offers many features. Canva for Work takes things just a step further. One of the best time-saving features enables you to save all of your specific branding characteristics in one hub, such as uploading your custom fonts, saving your brand hex colors, and saving your logo designs. If you are working with a digital marketing team, it’s also a great way to share your designs and communicate amongst your team members. Canva for Work also gives you the ability to save your templates for quick reference or to use in the future. Use their magic resize feature to create customized graphics for different marketing channels and social networks.
Creating Different Types of Graphics
Canva makes creating beautiful graphics and brilliant documents as easy as possible when using any of the different layout designs that can be customized. Formatting is very important when designing graphics, so choosing the correct sized format allows for your graphics to be responsive when they are being viewed on different devices. With Instagram, you can now choose from a few orientations like landscape (vertical), portrait (horizontal), and square posts (traditional).
In the Canva application use these graphics format sizes:
- Square 1080 x 1080
- Portrait 1080 x 1350
- Landscape 1080 x 608
Some other added features include Instagram stories. It’s a great way to create a slideshow using both images, recorded videos, and LIVE videos. Get creative with your posts and make a statement!
Another great feature when using Canva for Work is that you can create an image into a gif, aka an animated image. This feature takes a product tour to the next level!
