If you’re running a small business or you’re about to jump on the entrepreneur train, then more than likely you’ll be doing some social media marketing. I mean, that’s where it’s at!
Today I wanted to talk to you a lil’ bit about hashtags. I’m sure you’ve heard of hashtags before, but did you know they can be a great marketing tool to use on Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest to name a few?
What exactly is a hashtag? It’s any keyword with a pound symbol in front of it used to organize and sort out information inside social media. The hashtag was originally used on Twitter and now, so many other social media sites have adopted it.
Many of my customers have asked me if they should be using hashtags in their social media marketing strategy and I always say, “YES!” for three main reasons.
- You can create your very own hashtag. If you have a business with a really cute name, you can use that as a hashtag. Have your audience start using your original hashtag as well. View this hashtag as a communication tool between you and your audience.
- You can engage with your audience by using hashtags. Think of the most relevant hashtags that your audience is using and use those with your social media content.
- You can use hashtags to stay on top of the latest news in your industry. If there is something hot and trending right now in your industry, you want to be the first to know about it, research it, and let your audience in on it. Be the leader in your industry. The go-to resource your audience is looking for.
The power of the hashtag is great for business and definitely a tool you want to begin incorporating into your social media marketing strategy.
